Preparing for Your Engagement Photo Shoot

One of the biggest events of your life has happened - congratulations!! We are so excited to celebrate your engagement with you! Of course, the preparations for the NEXT biggest event of your life are now underway as you prepare for your wedding day. One of the first tasks you’ll want to check off of your list is your engagement photos. These will be used in many different locations, from your wedding website with the details about your day to the wedding invitations, and more. So it’s worth it to invest a little bit of time in making these great. Here are a few tips that your favorite Lake of the Ozarks winery has to help with the process!

Prior To Your Engagement Shoot

There are a few tasks that you can accomplish before your engagement photo shoot. With a little preparation, you can have a wonderful session.

Find Your Photographer
There are MANY photographers, but there is a much smaller number of excellent photographers. If you care about quality over price, you may need to do some research ahead of time to find the photographer that matches your style and needs. If you care about something cost effective, you’ll be able to find a photographer for that as well. If you aren’t sure who you should use, be sure and ask us for suggestions. As a Lake of the Ozarks wedding venue, we see many photographers come through, and can help point you in the right direction of a photographer that you’ll love.

Choose Your Wardrobe
You can rely on Pinterest for some color schemes and styles, but try not to get too trendy with your wardrobe. You’ll want to look back in 20 years and not laugh at the outrageous outfit that you wore! You can also rely on the season to give you an idea of color schemes. If you really aren’t sure what to wear, you can ask your photographer for suggestions. They spend a lot of time looking at different couples and people with different outfits, so they will naturally have an idea of what looks good. Typically you want to stay away from bold patterns and stick to solid colors or very minimal patterns.

Talk About Your Insecurities
Do you “hate having your photo taken”? Many people do, but if you are willing to talk to your photographer about this, they can help. Whether you have a specific feature you dislike, or don’t feel amazing in your body - your photographer can help you find poses that will mask the things you don’t like, and highlight the things that you do! Of course, keep in mind that most people are hardest on themselves, so what you feel insecure about, most likely no one has ever even noticed.

Find the Best Location
Do you and your spouse have a special place that you’d like to have your photos taken in? That’s perfect! Make sure you tell your photographer so they can scout it out ahead of time and be prepared for any unusual situations. This can include lighting issues, high levels of traffic, or even weather challenges. If you aren’t sure where you want your photos taken, ask your photographer where they suggest. In many cases, they have a list of locations that they love to take photos in. If you’re getting married at the best winery at the Lake of the Ozarks, you could consider doing your engagement shoot here, as well! We have plenty of great backdrops in our scenery to make for an amazing collection of images!

During Your Engagement Shoot

This can be a little overwhelming for those who don’t like to have the photo taken, and often times can be a lot of pressure on men. Here are a few ways you can get the most from your session!

Block Out the Photographer
It’s true, kissing in front of someone, especially someone taking your photo can feel a little awkward. Do your best to block them out, ignore the sound of the shutter clicking, and just focus on your fiancé. Better yet, plan a few things to “do” at your engagement session that will help loosen you up. Whether that’s riding your favorite horses, playing with your dogs, or even engaging in an activity that you enjoy together like hunting, dancing, etc. This can help take your mind off of the person behind the lens, and put your focus on each other - plus, it can make for some really special photos!

Trust Your Photographer
It may feel weird to hold a specific pose, but your photographer can see what you can’t. These poses can be incredibly special, especially when you finally see the “big picture.”

After Your Engagement Shoot

This can be the hardest part but now is when a little patience is required.

Be Patient With Your Photographer
While it may feel like a big deal for you to prepare for your engagement session, and then pose in the photos AFTER the shoot is the biggest portion for your photographer. Now they have to go through all of your photos and choose between hundreds to thousands of shots that are all great, but just a little different from each other. After they choose the photos, they have to edit them - both of these processes can take some time. Give your photographer a break, and wait for them to get your gallery done. Trust us - they want you to see it just as much as you do! Hopefully, they’ll be able to post a few “sneak peeks” along the way, though.

Handle Your Photos Properly Afterwords
Many photographers will tell you this, but try to refrain from adding extra filters and editing their photos. You paid them because you trusted their experience, continue to trust them now. If you’ll be sharing the photos on your social media, make sure to credit them for their work. This ensures that everyone knows where the photos came from, and can even help get them some more business! Every photographer has different things they will request, so make sure to check with them when you pick up the final copies of your photos!

Spring Weddings for the Blushing Bride

"Oh, they say when you marry in June you’re a bride all your life,
and the bridegroom who marries in June gets a sweet-heart for a wife."
“June Bride” from the movie Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

Will you be a June bride? June and other spring months have been popular choices for wedding dates for decades. There’s something sentimental and romantic about a spring wedding. If you’re a spring bride, how is the planning going? Here are a few things you may want to think about for your spring wedding at the Lake of the Ozarks!

Have a Backup Plan

Spring is a fickle season, some days are glorious with beautiful weather and sunny days. Other days bring surprise storms and torrential downpours. Because you can’t be guaranteed a spectacular weather day, it’s best to have a “plan B” just in case. At Seven Springs Winery, we have many beautiful outdoor wedding venues at the Lake of the Ozarks. We also have a location indoors for those days when the weather won’t cooperate.

Find Your Wedding Shoes

If you haven’t found the perfect pair yet, it’s time to get hunting. You’ll want to allow for plenty of time to start breaking in your wedding shoes well before the big day. Revel in true girly-girl style by slipping on your shoes every evening. Wandering around the house for 5-10 minutes can break them in while keeping them clean.

What Time is Sunset?

As the seasons change, it’s a good idea to think about how the lighting will improve your big day. If you’ll be having an evening ceremony, you may want to plan the ceremony right before sunset. Then it will fade into a wonderful spring evening for the reception and make for a glorious event!

Plan for Your Guests Comfort

Spring weather can have some uncertainties, so plan ahead for your guests. Spring evenings can still be a little chilly so you can invest in standing heaters to gather around. You could also provide comfortable blankets for them to cuddle under.

Take Advantage of Natural Beauty

The spring season naturally produces beautiful surroundings. Everything is finally green, the flowers are blooming, the birds are singing. Use this to your advantage! You can still incorporate floral arrangements, but you can make use of natural beauty. This can also save you money in your wedding budget!

Your Lake of the Ozarks Wedding

If you’ve always dreamt of having a wedding at the Lake of the Ozarks, NOW is the time to get started! Spring and summer weddings are the highlights of the season. If you are looking for an affordable wedding venue at the Lake of the Ozarks, Seven Springs Winery is here for you. Surrounded by the beauty of a blooming winery, say your vows at the most beautiful wedding venue at the Lake of the Ozarks. Planning Your Wedding Bar

If there's one thing that you don't want to neglect at your wedding, it's the bar. Whether you're having an open bar or only a few signature drinks - you'll want to make sure you have the appropriate amount on hand for your wedding. At Seven Springs Winery, we are experts in wine, but we also serve other types of alcohol at our wedding venue at the Lake of the Ozarks. Here are a few things to keep in mind about your wedding bar, and what you ought to have on hand to keep a completely stocked bar.

Wedding Bar Tips

For some couples, the wedding bar can be a topic of confusion or even a touchy subject depending on a families budget and stance on alcohol. Be prepared to talk about it while planning your big day, and make decisions ahead of time to help make the event go smoothly.

Make a Plan

Do you have a few family members who are famous for drinking a little too much and dragging the party down? Make plans ahead of time for what you can do to keep that from happening. Whether you decide on a cash bar and only feature a few highlighted drinks. You can also keep the bar open for a specific number of hours if you want to do an open bar. This should help keep guests from overindulging for a long period of time.

Provide Plenty of Food & Drinks

If you really want to keep the alcohol limited, or at least counteract it a bit, you can make sure to provide snacks after the reception. Some brides choose fun foods, like pizza, while others may choose an appetizer. Full bellies can help slow the rate of alcohol absorption into the system.

Stock a Full Wedding Bar

This is only a suggested type and amount of alcohol that you should provide at your wedding, but you'll want to work with your wedding coordinator to make sure that you are planning accordingly.

For a wedding with one hundred guests, that has a reception that lasts about four hours, with one bar, there are some types and amounts of alcohol that you can provide.

Wine

You can't go wrong when you have twelve bottles of red and twelve bottles of white. Obviously, when you have a winery wedding at the Lake of the Ozarks, wine is going to be the BEST option. We have many varieties for you to choose from, so come do a wine tasting at our Missouri winery, and work with our wedding coordinator to choose the best.

Beer

You'll want to have three different types of beer on hand for your guests, and a good recomendation is three cases of light, two cases of domestic, and one case of imports. At Seven Springs Winery, we do have some beer on tap for those with alternative tastes, so don't forget to ask our wedding coordinator at the Lake of the Ozarks if you are interested in beer at your wedding.

Other Liquor

While many of your guests may stick to the popular wine and beer, you'll want to have a few others on hand if you want to have a full bar. You can't go wrong with two liters of bourbon, two liters of sctoch, five liters of vodka, one liter of tequila, two liters of rum, and one liter of gin. Don't forget sweet vermouth, dry vermouth, and triple sec!

Mixers & Garnish

Finally, you'll want a few things to mix with the alcohol. A good total to go by is thirty-six cans of Coke, twenty-four Diet Coke, twelve cans of sprite, twelve cans of tonic, twelve cans of ginger ale, and twelve cans of club soda. You'll also want to make sure you have plenty of lemons, limes, oranges, olives, and cherries. You can also consider other popular choices like cranberry juice, grapefruit juice, pineapple juice, lime juice, grenadine, sour mix, and bloody mary mixes.

The Best Wedding Venue at the Lake of the Ozarks

Finally, don't forget to take into account the guests that you'll be having, the taste, the season, and even the demographic all play a role in the choices you make when choosing the bar. Our wedding venue is the ideal place to have a classy event, but still be fun - and don't forget affordable. Visit our website today to get your FREE wedding packet to learn more about our venue. We look forward to serving and celebrating you for this big event.

Wedding Photos You MUST Get

While the memory of your wedding will always remain with you, there is something special about capturing those images and keeping them forever through wedding photography. While some couples may hire a family friend to take their photos, for a majority of couples, the wedding photography is one of the biggest aspects of their budget. Because of this, we think it's extremely important to know exactly what you want to get ahead of time, and get able to give you photographer a good idea of what you want to be captured at your wedding.

Here at Seven Springs Winery, we love to host weddings at our wedding venue at the Lake of the Ozarks, and there's nothing more beautiful than photos taken with our vineyard in the background. As you plan your wedding, here are a few shots you'll want to keep in mind:

The Bride

There are going to be several shots that you would like to have of you in your dress, whether it's a full length, the back of your dress, your bouquet, and others. Here is a list of shots you'll most likely want to get with other people.

  • Bride with parents together and separately
  • Bride with grandparents
  • Bride with siblings
  • Bride with maid or matron of honor and each bridesmaid
  • Bride with other attendants
  • Bride with groomsmen

The Groom

From little details like the fun socks your groom is wearing, or the cufflinks that belonged to his grandfather - your photographer will want to know that you want photos of these details. You'll also want to capture these images as well:

  • Groom with parents together and separately
  • Groom with grandparents
  • Groom with siblings
  • Groom with best man
  • Groom with groomsmen
  • Groom with other attendants
  • Groom with bridesmaids

The Bride and Groom

Do you have special poses that you've seen on Pinterest that you would like to accomplish on your wedding day? Share these photos with your photographer. Better yet, create a Pinterest board of the photos you like and share it with them. This can give them a great idea of what you'd like to capture.

  • Bride & Groom together
  • Bride & Groom with each set of parents
  • Bride & Groom with entire wedding party
  • Close-up of the rings
  • Photos with marriage certificate

The Ceremony

Your photographer will know exactly what shots to capture during the ceremony, and you can trust them to choose the exact moment. If you will have something specific happening during the ceremony, though, you'll want to give them a heads up. Like, if you'll be doing a special song on the left side of the sanctuary after the pastor speaks, let them know so they can have the best angle and be there at the right time. Will you be lighting a unity candle towards the back of the stage? Maybe you should tell your photographer how to get the best shot or be willing to stage it afterward.

The Reception

From photos of your and your groom arriving at the reception to shots of the first dance and cake cutting - there are many photos you'll want to have from this party! Give your photographer a schedule of events so they know what to expect through the evening. Do you have special guests that you want photos with? Like maybe your best friend from school, your aunt, and uncle that you are close with, and your neighbor's child that you babysat. Your photographer won't know about these details, but if you tell them to look for these moments and capture them, they can help you keep track.

How to Choose Seasonal Wedding Flowers

If there is one thing that can bring your whole wedding together, it's the flowers and floral arrangments. There's something beautiful about the fresh blooms that fill in empty spaces and create a whimsical vision for your wedding. Of course, if you've ever looked at the price tag on some of these "whimsical visions" they can seem pretty scary. One of the ways you can save money on your floral arrangments is by buying in season. Check out these beautiful blooms, and see which would match well with your wedding!

Beat the Heat at Your Summer Wedding

June weddings have always had a special romantic sound to them. Of course, when the average heat index is over 100° your teary eyed look may not actually be tears on your wedding day. Since you're not actually going to change your wedding date just because it's hot, we have a few ideas to help you beat the heat! At Seven Springs Winery we have several beautiful venues for you to get married in, and should you choose the gazebo outside, we have ideas to help cool everything off a bit.

Be a FAN of your Wedding Program

This is a beautiful idea when you want to make your wedding functional and beautiful. All of the details about your wedding and wedding party can be laid out on a function open and close fan. This is a great way to provide your guests with something they can use during the wedding to cool off, and after they stick it in their purse to go home, they may just never take it out!

Pop the Cork and Eat a Popsicle

This is one of the best ideas we've seen yet! Put fruit popsicles into a wine glass and then pour your favorite, chilled, Seven Springs vino over the popsicles. It will make a refreshing, cool beverage, especially as the popsicle starts to melt in the wine.

Keep Your Guests Cool

When they first arrive at your wedding, have your guest book attendant offer them a cool drink that reminds them how refreshing your love is. Not only will this keep them cool, but hydrated, which is extremely important when it starts to get this hot outdoors. You can hand out bottles of chilled water, or you can go a step further and provide something that has electrolytes in it to keep them hydrated.

No Need to Search for This Fan

This program has a slightly different spin on it because not only is it a fan, but it is also entertainment for your guests as they are waiting for the wedding or reception to start. You can generate word searches online, or I'm sure you can outsource this project. Choose words that are specific to your special day, like names of your wedding party, special foods you ate on your first date, the location of your honeymoon, and more!

Make Hydration Accessible

No matter what, if your wedding is steamy, make it easy for your guests to find hydration. You can keep water stations scattered around the ceremony and reception area. Opt for something cool and refreshing. You need to have lots of water, but you can make it fancy by adding cucumbers and pieces of fruit.

Outdoor Wedding Venue at the Lake of the Ozarks

We know how important your wedding is to you, and that's why we make you and your guests a priority at our venue. Whether you find that the sun is scorching, or the winter day turns snowy, we're prepared to help you no matter the weather. If you're still looking for the perfect place to get married at the Lake of the Ozarks, look no further. We offer a gazebo and a banquet hall (that has air conditioning of course!), and both will be beautiful for your big day. Visit our website today to learn more about our wedding packages and how we can make your special day even better!
