Wine Opener
We think that even Houdini would agree that it's hard to break into a wine bottle without corkscrews...These fancy tools come in many shapes, sizes and styles, ranging from beginner to seemingly complicated. The goal, though, is to get your wine open! We have an easy to use corkscrew in our shop, it also sports our lovely logo, so you can always be reminded of your favorite winery at the Lake of the Ozarks when you open your wine!
Wine Glasses
In desperate situations we suppose a tumbler would work, but to truly enjoy wine you need wine glasses. Recent studies have even proven that the shape of a glass affects how the flavor of the wine is perceived. You have many different choices when it comes to glasses, stemmed vs. stemless, and crystal vs. glass. Some experts argue that stemless wine glasses cause unsightly finger prints, and too much heat transfer - though the downsides are pretty minimal. As for the differences between crystal and glass, crystal wins because it can be spun to have a strong, yet thin rim.
Decanter
This may seem rather fancy for someone who just casually enjoys a glass of wine, but exposing wine to oxygen before you drink it can help smooth out harsh tannins and bitterness. It can also release beautiful aromas! Wine can aerate slightly as your pour it from the bottle to your glass, but this tool increases the rate at which oxygen brings out the wine's best characteristics. Most aerating and decanting is reserved for red wines, but you can perform this technique on white and rosés as well.
Wine Stopper
After the cork is popped, wine is extremely vulnerable to oxidation. Oxidation is excessive exposure to oxygen, which is wine's unique form of kryptonite. Keeping oxygen away from the wine is the only way to prolong how long the wine will last. After one...or a dozen glasses of wine, your memory of the flavor won't be the same. As simple as it seems to have a tasting notebook, it's actually a very important tool if you're interested in becoming a wine connoisseur, or even just a wine lover. Certain flavors will pop out, and when you write them down you will have a better memory of them! You can keep an actual notebook, or just take notes in your phone, it's important to keep these notes in the same spot where you can always come back to them.
