Getting to Know Your Wine Glass

Depending on the type of wine snob that you are, you may or may not care about what glass your wine is in. In fact, if you’re a true wino, you may not even need a glass to begin with! However, because being “fancy” is acceptable every once in a while, we thought we’d take a few moments to talk about the infamous wine glass and what types of wines taste the best in them. After all, if you can enjoy the Lake of the Ozarks best wine even more in a special glass - why not?!

Get To Know Your Wine Glass

We’re going to get a little technical on you (just kidding, we’re not really *wink*), by introducing you to the different parts of your wine glass.

The Foot

This is the bottom of your glass that allows it to stand up. Some glasses don’t have this (such as stemless), and some have a stem without a foot (think of those floating wine glasses).

The Stem

This is the part of the glass that allows you to hold your wine glass without the heat from your hands warming your wine. It also allows you to not create smudges on the bowl which can distract from the visual appeal of your wine.

The Bowl

The most obvious reason for the bowl is for holding the wine - but there are many others, along with variations in the bowl shapes. Typically, the glasses will be tapered upward with a slightly narrower opening at the top than at the bottom. This helps you to capture and distribute the wine’s aroma toward your mouth and nose.

You can also notice that the bowl of a wine glass can be designed to allow an amount of surface area that is perfect for the type of wine. A red wine glass has larger surface areas so that the wine can breathe, while white wine glasses have smaller surface areas. This is also why champagne glasses have a very small amount of surface area so that it will retain its carbonation.

The Rim

If you want a great experience from drinking your wine, the rim is where it’s at. The thinner the rim, the less that the glass distracts from the wine as you sip. A good wine glass has a cut rim that is smooth to the touch. This allows the wine to flow out of the glass without any inhibitions. A less expensive glass may have a rim that is rolled or bumpy. This is still quite functional and even practical for everyday use, but if you’re aiming for superior snobbery, it can distract from the wine.

The Color

The best color for showing off the clarity of the wine is going to always be clear. It can be fun to choose other colors with decorations, but if your goal is to admire the appearance, you can’t go wrong with a crystal clear glass.

Have Your Wine & Drink It Too

Whether you enjoy your wine in a crystal glass or a red solo cup - the key is to make sure you have the best wine at the Lake of the Ozarks. Not only do we have the best wine around, but we also feature some of the best Missouri wines. Our Vignoles and Norton are grown on site, so you can both drive by and appreciate the rolling hills of grape vines, but then come sit back at the winery and enjoy a glass of your favorite while listening to live music at the Lake of the Ozarks. We’ve got live music this weekend, so make sure and stop by!

Summer Wedding Trends at the Lake of the Ozarks

This week has reminded us that summer is just around the corner. Before we know it, the temps will be warm, the sun will be high, and the Lake will be as busy as ever. With that comes another fantastic wedding season at the Lake of the Ozarks. If you’ve always dreamt of a winery wedding at the Lake of the Ozarks, we would love to invite you out to Seven Springs Winery. If you already have your summer wedding booked, and still need some planning ideas, here are a few of our favorites for this season!

Sophisticated Brights

Bright colors are great for summer, but if you aren’t careful it could look like a wedding circus tent (which could be a cute theme, actually … ). Keep it sophisticated and bright by pairing up just a couple bright hues alone or with an accent color. Pink and orange are popular shades for summer, along with bright blues and beach-y greens. Carry these colors through your centerpieces and floral arrangements to create a wonderful, pulled together look.

Chill Music

When looking for your band, a trending option is to find a group who keeps it chill. This works especially well at our Lake of the Ozarks winery. We love to have a chill atmosphere with live music on the patio and a glass of wine in our hands. If this sounds like the ideal Lake of the Ozarks wedding venue, we’d love to help you start planning!

Exciting New Themes

Beach and garden themes are always a huge hit in the summer but don’t be afraid to take a personal spin. Think of a place that you and your significant other always enjoy going (like your favorite winery, perhaps *wink*), and then bring pieces of that into your design. If you have a specific beach where you took your first vacation or a place you love to enjoy nature in - it can be a wonderful inspiration. Better yet, plan something around your honeymoon destination!

Surprise Invitations

You can always go traditional on your wedding invitations, OR, you could do something fun and surprising! If your wedding colors include a bright teal, think about including that color in your invitation. You can use bright teal envelopes to add some fun pops of color.

Back to Basics Centerpieces

Eco-friendly wedding decor is becoming a fun option - and one of the most interesting things brides are using is food! Summer weddings would be great with citrus as the centerpiece, along with grapes (obviously), or even hollowed out watermelons with floral arrangements inside. Of course, you can’t get more eco-friendly than repurposed wine bottles for floral arrangements. I would be quite the unique touch, wouldn’t it?

Wine Smoothies

Seriously, we can’t make this stuff up! Summer brides of 2018 are making these cold, frosty treats a huge hit at their weddings. You’ll be at the perfect place to make such a great statement, as well. Consider using the best Missouri wine for a delicious wine smoothie to serve at your wedding. It could be both a signature cocktail and a way to provide alcohol without quite the alcoholic punch.

More Than Just Cake

If you’re getting married in the summer, there are a few things to think about when it comes to cake. The first is if you’ll be having the reception outdoors and it’s going to be steamy. If so, you’ll want to opt for something that holds up to the heat well. After that, it’s really up to you! If you aren’t sure what flavor to choose, think of going with something that has a summer flair. Strawberries and cream, key lime pie, or orange with vanilla. The possibilities are endless. Better yet, see if you can hire an ice cream truck to stop by during the reception for an icy cold treat.

Your Lake Wedding

The Lake of the Ozarks is such a dreamy place to host your wedding. The gorgeous views, and exceptional summer weather, and of course, the delicious wine all make for a wonderful combination. If you haven’t booked your wedding date yet, give us a call! Summertime dates fill up FAST, but we want you to have the wedding of your dreams, so give us a call and see what’s still available! We hope it’s filled with all of the summer romance that you’ve been dreaming of.
