Choosing the Best Bridesmaid Dress

The wedding planning is only just beginning and you'll have a lot of decisions to make. From choosing the best Lake of the Ozarks wedding venue to picking a delicious menu, it may seem rather daunting. One decision that you ought to try to make at the start regards to your bridesmaid dresses. This may seem like a choice you can save for later, but did you know that it can sometimes take up to six months to get the dresses ordered and fitted for your bridesmaids? The sooner you pick out the dresses, the sooner your bridesmaids can order them. Here are a few tips to help you choose the best dress for ALL of your bridesmaids.

Get Your Bridesmaid's Input

Since they will be the ones wearing the dress, try getting their input. Of course, you could save yourself some time by asking the right questions. Instead of asking what types of dresses they would like to wear (and getting a flood of answers) try asking them about the dresses they don't want to wear. You may have one friend who is well-endowed and doesn't want to wear strapless gowns or another friend who looks washed out in lavender. By discovering what they DON'T want to wear, you could save yourself some time and make picking the dress a lot easier.

Keep Choices Limited

A new trend for brides is to tell their girls to pick their own dresses - but just remember that you leave a lot to the imagination with that. Try limiting their choices to you can still keep some similarity in the dresses. Here are a few choices you can make for your bridesmaids, while still letting them pick their own gown:

  • Stick with the same designer, shop, or brand
  • Use the same color or color scheme
  • Specify the dress length
  • Verify if you want a special material (ex: all chiffon, lace accents, shiny satin, etc.)

Test The Dress

Finally, don't forget that weddings are celebratory affairs and there will most likely be a party happening at your Lake of the Ozarks wedding. Keep this in mind when choosing the dresses for your bridal party. When you and your bridesmaids choose the dresses, take them for a little test drive by trying them on and jumping up and down, doing a little dance move, and putting your arms in the air like you just don't care. This will help you to know how the dress will react through the active parts of the wedding.

Don't forget to think about how the dress will react to the elements. If you're getting married in our gazebo at the Lake of the Ozarks on a beautiful spring day, and you want your girls to wear short chiffon gowns - what will you do if it's a windy day? You can either figure out how to add weights to the hem or pick dresses that have a little more weight to them before hand.

Should I Do A Seating Chart For My Wedding?

As a busy bride, we're sure the last thing you've been thinking about is a seating chart for all of your guests - but it's time to consider it. Sure, it's just one more thing to plan out, but is it actually worth the work involved? At Seven Springs Winery, we have a large banquet center that can seat up to 350 guests, so you'll need to decide whether it's worth it to invest time in your guests' seating plans or let the wing it. Here are a few ways you can decide whether a seating chart would be good for your wedding.

Do You Seat, Or Do You Not?

It can seem like a lot of work to make a seating arrangement, but there are actually some really great reasons to do so for some weddings. Here is a good way to decide if you should do it or not.

  • Do you have more than 100 guests invited?
  • Do you have guests from different areas and seasons of your life?
  • Do any of your guests have issues getting along?

If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, you may want to consider doing a seating arrangement, even if just table arrangements.

Seating Chart Benefits

While taking the time to do a seating arrangement may make you feel like a bit of a control freak - there are actually some great benefits to doing one. As the hostess of this large event, part of your job is to make your guests feel comfortable and ensure that they are having a great time. While we're sure you can come up with many reasons to NOT have one on your own, here are a few reasons you may want one.

You Can Arrange Guests Based on Interests

Your guests will likely be sitting at their table for a few hours, between appetizers, the meal, watching the wedding event proceed (like the dances, speeches, cake cutting, and more). That means your guests will be sitting at a table with people they may or may not know for a while. You can make this easier by placing people together that you know will get along. If you have some cousins who like fly fishing, and your new spouse has some friends who enjoy it, placing them together could mean they'll have some great company.

Make Your Single Guests Comfortably

It can be hard to come to a wedding alone - especially if you only know the bride or the groom. Make it easier on your single guests by placing them with other people they may get along with. This can also possibly alleviate needing to invite +1's since you are giving them good company.

Out of Room?

What would you do if you and your significant other had mingled in the lobby a little too long, and by the time you came into the reception area, the only seats available were single seats? It would be challenging to try and move people, and you wouldn't want to sit alone. You could probably pull up a seat, but that would make the other guests cramped. You can save your guests this possible embarrassment with seating arrangements. No matter how long they mingle, their seat is always there for them.

It Can Manage Drama

While this may not help control ALL of the drama, it certainly can help a bit. We're not even just talking about guests who clearly don't like each other, but guests who wouldn't naturally get along either. While it may seem unlikely that your liberal aunt and your significant other's conservative uncle would happen to sit together, if they do - it could make for an awkward time for all surrounding them. You can save this from happening by placing these family members with people they will get along with and they everyone will have a better time.

The Lake of the Ozarks is an amazing place to host your wedding. It is a central hub for many surrounding towns, but it's also an ideal vacation destination in the Midwest. Because of that, we attract locals and tourist alike at our Lake of the Ozarks wedding venue. As you think about the best venue for your Lake of the Ozarks wedding, we would like to provide you with seven strong reasons you would love to have your wedding at Seven Springs Winery.

Indoors or Outdoors

While many brides choose to have their wedding outdoors, indoor weddings are still just as popular - especially during off seasons when the weather could be hard to plan around. Because of this, we feature indoor and outdoor wedding locations. Our outdoor gazebo is nestled in among the grapes and is a beautiful place to tie the knot. Our pavilion seats 200 people and is electrified for use of cd players, iPod stations, or a live band.

Do you want to get married indoors?  We can help with that, too! Our banquet center can accommodate up to 350 guests, and it is complete with a full-service kitchen and bar.

A benefit to having a winery wedding at the Lake of the Ozarks is that you can get custom labels for your wine bottles. We can create custom labels for your business, special occasion, or special event!

"I Do" Amidst the Grapes

They don't set those chick flick romances in among vineyards for no reason! There's just something romantic about a wedding at a winery.

Our motto makes it clear, "Come for the wine ... Stay for the atmosphere ... Remember the view!" We have a breathtaking view of the rolling Ozark hills that can't be forgotten, and it's even better when you're kicked back with a glass of our amazing Missouri wine. This same view is going to be what makes your wedding memorable as well.

Convenient Location

We are located between Osage Beach, Missouri, and Camdenton, Missouri. Both of these towns are well known for their tourist and vacation amenities. This means that if you have guests coming from out of town - they will have excellent places to stay. The Lake of the Ozarks is also centrally located, so even if you are from St. Louis, Kansas City or Springfield, a quick drive on main roads will bring you and your guests to the area.

Whether you're having a large wedding with all of your friends and family, or a small wedding with a close few, we can accommodate your dream wedding. Small weddings can be had on our patio, large weddings in the banquet center or outdoors at our gazebo.

The Beginners Guide to All Things Vino

While you don't need to be an expert to enjoy a bottle of the best wine at the Lake of the Ozarks - it can be a fun way to start a new hobby. Wine is a historical beverage, dating back thousands of years. It's been created out of many different ingredients from a rice and honey wine to the most common ingredient today: grapes. With the many flavors that can be found in a glass of wine, and the fact that those flavors can be altered by one simple step - we wanted to give you the low down on wine types, glasses, and even how to read a label.

Popular Wine Varieties

White Wine

Wine can be described as dry or sweet, and it all depends on the amount of residual sugar left in the wine. Residual sugar is any natural grape sugars that are left after fermentation. If the fermentation process uses up the sugar, it is a dry wine. If the fermentation process stops before it uses up all of the sugar a sweet wine has been produced.

  • Chardonnay
  • Riesling
  • Pino Grigio
  • Sauvignon Blanc

Red Wine

One of the most popular topics regarding red wines is usually the body and tannin level. The wine body is dependent on how the wine feels in your mouth. It can be similar to the feeling of a wine being thick or thin. Light or thin bodied wines are ver watery, medium bodied is like regular milk, and full bodied is more like cream. Tannins naturally occur in the plants, seeds, and skins of grapes. Tannins add dryness, bitterness, and astringency in the middle of your tongue and the front part of your mouth.

  • Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Merlot
  • Pinot Noir
  • Shiraz

Your Wine Glass Guide

There are several different types of wine glasses, and each one is ideal for different types of wines. Granted, you could use a different glass than is suggested, but there is a reason each glass is suggested.

Large Red - the bowl shape allows the wine to breathe and is best for cabernet sauvignon, pinot noir, and merlot.
Small Red - it's narrower at the top, which directs the wine to the nose. It's ideal for Shiraz and Zinfandel.
Large White - this glass is smaller than the red, with a wide bowl. You'll enjoy chardonnay and chablis in this glass.
Small White - even narrower than the last glass, it directs the aromas right up to your nose. Try Riesling, Pinot Gris, or Sauvignon Blanc in this glass.
Flute - when you want to enhance bubbles, this is the perfect glass. It's ideal for champagne and sparkling wines.
Dessert - It's a small glass that directs the wine to the back of the mouth. Sherry and port are two types of wine that are ideal.

Reading Your Wine Label

There are a few key things you will notice on a wine label, all of the being as important as the other.

You can find the producer of the wine listed on the label. This is going to tell you what winery produced the wine, but not necessarily where the grapes were grown.

The vintage will tell you what year the wine was produced. This is important because weather affects wine flavor, and every year will have a slightly different taste.

Do you want to know what type of grapes the wine was made from? The variety is listed on the label, and the wine must contain 75% of that type of grape.

There are some areas that have better grapes than others, because of this, the region will be listed on the label.

Finally, if you want to distinguish how bold the wine taste is, sometimes you can rely on the alcohol content, which should also be listed on the label.

If you're looking for a glass of wine that surpasses your expectations - you should try Missouri wine. Our grapes are grown at our Lake of the Ozarks vineyard, you'll even see them as you drive in. Our wine is expertly made, and we're sure you'll enjoy it. You are welcome to come visit us and try a few for yourself! Try three free, or for a small fee you can try all of them (and get a small gift!). Our winery is nestled into the Ozark hills, and it's the perfect place to kick back and enjoy a glass of vino.
