For many, the new year represents a new start, and because of that, New Year's resolutions are born. Have you ever wondered what the most popular resolutions are? While we would expect certain ones like losing weight or saving money, there are some unique ones, too! Here are the top ten New Years resolutions.
  • Lose Weight
  • Getting Organized
  • Spend Less, Save More

  • Staying Fit and Healthy
  • Learn Something Exciting

Choosing a Wine For Your Thanksgiving Feast

The time of year has come where we pull out our stretchy pants, spend time with friends and family, and toast to all of the things we're thankful for. Obviously, we're thankful for good wine, and lots of it! As you're finalizing your Thanksgiving menu don't forget to give some thought to the type of wine you'll be serving. At Seven Springs Winery, we provide you with amazing Missouri wine, so when you're looking for the perfect vino, we can help.

Turkey is a perfect match for wine because it's light enough to pair with white, but flavorful enough to enjoy with a light red - and of course the dark meat is delectable with a dark red. It can be challenging, however, to find the perfect wine for your Thanksgiving dinner because of the smorgas board of foods you may be enjoying. Here are a few ways you can narrow it down and select the best wine for your Thanksgiving meal!

Add Some Sparkle

You can't go wrong with a sparkling wine for your Thanksgiving dinner! It pairs well with turkey and cranberry sauce, and there's just something festive about a chilled, sparkling beverage. At Seven Springs Winery we have two crisp, sparkling wines that would pair wonderful with your feast.

Muscato Sparkling
Brilliant, light straw, tropical fruit & flowers. Light bodied, fruit forward sparkling finish.

Blushing Springs
Sparkling red wine, sweet berry aromas with a semi sweet finish.

Change It Up

You could use the same wine throughout the entire meal, OR, you could serve a different wine with every course. This is obviously a good option, because you don't have to choose just one wine, and you can sample several different ones! Don't know where to start? Our wine menu on our website lists all of our wines, with short descriptions of each one. You can get a good idea of what would taste best with which part of your meal and wow your guests with your variety!

Guests Choice

What do you do if your mom likes bold reds, your uncle likes white, and your sister only drinks sweet? Buy ALL the wine! You think we're kidding? One of the best ways to make sure everyone has what they want at dinner is by providing the wine that your guests like, and letting them pair it with their meal. This is an easy way to pair wine, and certainly the most successful.

End With Dessert

Obviously you'll end your meal with dessert, but why don't you choose a dessert wine to seal the deal. A fresh, sweet wine is a great way to leave a perfect taste in your guests mouth as they finish savoring your impeccable meal. If you don't know where to start, we have two reds that would make a delectable combination with your desserts.

Spring Red
Semi sweet red with hint of black cherry and a velvet finish.

Seven’s Red Heaven
Beautiful deep plum color with refreshing, Crisp fruit flavors & a distinct sweet finish.

Be Thankful For Wine

While there are many things to be thankful for, like your family, friends, good food, and a great place to celebrate - we think good wine should make the list! Come out to the winery, grab several bottles of the best wine at the Lake of the Ozarks and celebrate! All of the staff at Seven Springs Winery hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving, and we'll see you when you get back!

5 Ways to Become a Wine Connoisseur - For Beginners

For beginners, the world of wine can be an intimidating place sometimes. It's filled with individuals who wear the right clothing, sip their wine the correct way, and then come back with a thousand flavors they found in that one swish. While it may seem complicated, there are a few things you can do to make the pomp and circumstance become a lot less difficult, and a whole lot more enjoyable for a new wine connoisseur. At Seven Springs Winery, we feature a variety of Missouri wines, and we would love to share them with you - you don't even have to hold your pinky out when you sip ;).

Here are a few things you can do while tasting a wine that actually do make a difference in the flavor, and can help you learn to pick flavors out. Of course, this may take some practice, so you'll have to grab a few friends and head down to the winery!

Look

This step should really take no more than five seconds, so you don't have to stare into your glass for too long. You're looking at the color and opacity of the wine, is it red or white? Does it have a dark appearance, or can you see through it? Finally, you'll observe the "legs" or viscosity of the wine. Many of the details are things you'll find quite obvious, maybe even on the bottle, but it can be fun to observe the glass before enjoying it.

Smell

When you're smelling a wine, you don't have to think of it in tiny terms. You don't have to be able to pick out every single little detail about the wine, but instead, take a long whiff and catch the bold broad flavors. Do you smell citrus or orchard fragrances? Breaking the scent down slowly from the larger aspects keeps you from getting frustrated. You can divide the fragrances into these categories:

Primary

Do you smell fruit, herb, or floral? These are the first elements you'll search for when smelling the best wine at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Secondary

These scents will come from the winemaking process, most likely the yeast, and will possibly remind you of cheese rind, nut husk (almond, peanut), or stale beer.

Tertiary

Finally, this comes from the aging process. Sometimes it's from the bottle, others from a barrel, and they will mimic these flavors: roasted nuts, baking spice, vanilla, autumn leaves, old tobacco, cured leather, or mushroom.

Taste

Now comes the fun part! This is how you can get the full taste of the wine, and even after you swallow you'll find that the flavors change because you're enjoying them with an entirely different area of your palette. Do you taste anything salty, sweet, sour, or bitter? These are things that you can only appreciate from your taste buds.

Can you "touch" the wine? This is caused by the alcohol content and the tannins. If you notice that wine is thicker than water, that is what causes this. Tannins are in all wines, and they are what give you the dry feeling that people mention about wine.

Enjoy!

Now that you've analyzed the wine, think about it! Did you enjoy the flavor combination? Was something off balance? Or was everything perfect and as it should be? Once you've found a wine that sits well with your palette, it's time to kick back and enjoy a bottle of it at our beautiful Lake of the Ozarks winery!

Spoil Your Senses at Seven Springs Winery

From flavor to beauty, you'll find many different aspects of our winery that appeal to all of your senses! Our selection of wine is varied and created to appeal to many different style and palettes, while our winery has beautiful views and great places to sit back and enjoy the freedom of a night spent enjoying wine. Come out and visit us sometime, we're certain you'll never want to leave!

How to Choose a Signature Wedding Wine

As you plan your wedding, there are several decisions to be made. From the colors in your theme to the types of food you serve. There is, undoubtedly, one decision that trumps them all - your signature wine. Maybe we're biased because we have the best wine at the Lake of the Ozarks and wine always comes first, but we believe this decision is quite important. Today we're going to discuss a few things you need to know about your signature wine, and which of our varieties you will LOVE!

This Is Not A Seasonal Decision

While many people believe that wine is a seasonal choice, with red wine being most popular in the fall and winter, and the white wine being more popular in spring and summer. This can be an easy way to decide what you serve, though it really doesn't matter what time of year it is, and has more to do with what you are serving.

Think About Your Menu

Trust your menu, and choose a signature wine that pairs well with your main course! At Seven Springs Winery, we have many varieties of Missouri Wine that will pair beautifully with your meal, but you'll need to know which wines pair the best with your delicacies.

Chicken - If you're serving chicken at your wedding, you'll want a red wine or a white that is on the medium to light end.

Fish - You can't go wrong with a light white wine! They go very well with seafood dishes, and we're sure you will love the combination.

Beef - Strong reds pair well with a strong beefy flavor. We have several varieties that will pair well with your menu selection.

Pork - Bold white is the way to go when you choose pork for your menu.

K.I.S.S - Keep It Simple Silly!

While it can be easy to get wrapped up in the decisions of which wine to choose, and you may have the opinion of your wine connoisseur guest in mind - keep it simple. One basic white, one basic red, and a bubbly finish should be all you need. Your white wine should be light and refreshing, not complicated. A great choice at Seven Springs Winery would be our Spring Fling - with a light straw color and a lime green rim. Light bodied with fruity, citrus & lychee. For your red wine, choose something a little crisp and a little fruity, like our Spring Red- it's semi sweet red with hint of black cherry and a velvet finish. Do you want to end the night with a sparkling finish? Try one of our two sparkling wines!

Blushing Springs - Sparkling red wine, sweet berry aromas with a semi sweet finish.

Moscato Sparkling - Brilliant, light straw, tropical fruit & flowers. Light bodied, fruit forward sparkling finish.

How Many Bottles?

If you're not sure how many bottles you'll need for your wedding, a good rule of thumb is a bottle per person. So long as you're not having the bottles opened ahead of time, you can return them or keep them for plenty of celebrating afterwords.

If you're doing a toast, you should be about to get about 8 servings from a bottle when done right.

Choose the Right Wine for Your Wedding

If you're still not sure which wine would be the best as your wedding, it sounds like you need to do a wine tasting! At Seven Springs Winery, we have a beautiful facility with a wine tasting bar where you can taste three free wines. If you want to taste more than that, for a small fee you can taste all of them and get a complimentary Seven Spring's wine glass. If you're not stumped on the wine, but you still don't have a wedding venue - we can help with that too! Our wedding packages start at just $2,000, and we would be delighted to show you around our beautiful Lake of the Ozarks wedding venue. Visit our website to learn more!
