Missouri Saved the French WineBack in the 1870s, French wineries were dying due to a vineyard pest call Phylloxera. A Missouri Entomologist named C.V. Riley discovered American rootstock was resistant to this pest, and it was sent overseas and grafted into the French vines, thus helping rebuild their industry.
Missouri Makes a LOT of WineOver 900,000 gallons of wine are produced in Missouri alone, ever year! All of those bottled lined up would nearly span the widths of the state.
