Wine Buying Guide for Beginners

When you are just entering the world of wine, it can seem daunting. There are so many different terms, types, flavors, and even glasses! Where do you start, what do you drink, and how do you know what you'll like? Simply put, you just have to jump in and start trying wines. Luckily for you, there are a few "break-in" wines that can help ease you in to the long-lasting love of wine.

White Wine

You get to make the first big decision: white or red? We recommend starting off with white wines, they are not quite as bold as the red wines. They are also lighter bodied and easier on the palate. Here are a few of our Seven Springs Whites we think you'll enjoy:

  • Muscato Sparkling. This brilliant white wine has a light straw color. With tropical fruit & flowers flavors, this light bodied wine is a great choice. The fruit forward sparkling finish will leave you with a great appreciation for white wines.
  • Spring Fling. This wine also has the light straw color, with a lime green rim. It's light body, and fruity, citrus & lychee flavors are going to leave you wanting more.
  • Traminette. With it's light straw color and green hues, we know this will be a favorite. It's light bodied, with a fruity yet dry finish. This might be the bolder of the three white wines we've listed. With it's touch of dry-ness, you could be in for a fun kick!

Red Wine

Start off with the simpler red wines, it will take time for your wine palate to develop, and then you can move on to the complex, full bodied reds. These are a few of our suggested faves to start off your new found love of red wines.

  • Pinot Noir. With it's medium plum and garnet colors, you'll enjoy this flavorful variety. Hints of berries and spices make the flavor of this wine unique. It's medium bodied with beautiful, velvety tannins and has a long finish.
  • Syrah. This wine has beautiful aromas of currant, blackberry, and black pepper. The finale is a very subtle, with a delicious vanilla oak flavor.
  • Blushing Springs. This is a fun, sparkling wine. It has sweet berry aromas and a semi sweet finish.
