You MUST Celebrate Moscato Day

There’s something subtly romantic and brightly flavorful about a chilled glass of Moscato. Thankfully, we get a whole day dedicated to this incredible wine variety every year on May 9th. We have a delightful Moscato wine at our Lake of the Ozarks winey that you absolutely have to try - but in the meantime, here are a few interesting things to know about Muscat wines, where they come from, how they’re made, what you should pair them with and more!

Seven Springs Muscato Sparkling

Our Muscat isn’t your typical glass of wine. We’ve taken an average wine and made it amazing by bringing out the brilliant, light straw color and enhancing the tropical fruit & flowery flavors that are so well loved in a glass of Muscato. Ours is light bodied but has that wonderful fruit forward sparkling finish. It’s a wonderful glass of wine to sit down and enjoy a warm spring or summer evening and perfect when you want to toast to a wonderful event.

A Few Facts About Muscato Wine

  • Moscato wine comes from the Muscat grape.
  • Moscato wine is generally sweeter than other wines
  • Muscat grapes have become popular in other parts of the world, such as Chile!
  • Moscato wines have a high concentration of flavonoid (similar to red), which means that it’s considered a healthy wine! It’s high in antioxidants, too!
  • The Muscat grape is the only fine wine grape that can double as a table grape!

What Should You Pair with Our Muscato Sparkling

If you aren’t sure what would pair well with our Moscato Sparkling wine, we have a few suggestions! Of course, if you really want to get the scoop, come check out our menu. We have a wine pairing with each meal selection.

  • Brie-style cheeses or mascarpone cheese with a sweet bread.
  • Buttery cream sauce or even buttered popcorn!
  • Shrimp, shellfish, smoked salmon, caviar, fried calamari, and oysters.
  • Salami, veggies, stuffed mushrooms, egg dishes, foie gras.
  • Fruit-based desserts like crepes, tarts, or a buttery, honeyed dessert.
  • Shortbread cookies also pair well.
  • Our Spicy Shrimp & Crab Bisque (An award winner for Best of the Lake!)
  • Our Seared Ahi Tuna Firecracker Lollipops
  • Our Grilled Chicken Apple & Cheddar Grilled Panini

Basically, you can pair it with the items you would usually pair with a white wine or a champagne!

The Best Wine at the Lake of the Ozarks

Sure, we may be biased, but we are certain that you will enjoy a glass of Moscato sparkling when you come out to our Lake of the Ozarks winery. The view alone is worth the drive out, but our Missouri wine is absolutely delectable. If you haven't been out here, come out on Wednesday, May 9th for Moscato Day! Or take a look at our Facebook page to learn more about the great events at the Lake of the Ozarks that are coming up. We have some amazing live entertainers on the calendar and we would love for you to come out and enjoy them.

Shawn C

Shawn C is a local legend at the Lake of the Ozarks. He will be playing for our Doe Camp event, and we are so excited to feature him at our Lake of the Ozarks event. He'll be playing all afternoon on Saturday, May 5th, so make plans to be here! If you aren't familiar with his musical talents, here is a bio from his website:

"Twenty-year-old singer/songwriter Shawn C was born and raised at the Lake of the Ozarks. Shawn started performing publicly in 2009, and in the summer of 2011 he began playing regularly at lakeside restaurants.
Shawn studied in Nashville and received his audio engineering certificate from Dark Horse Institute in 2015. He is now back at Lake of the Ozarks performing, producing and recording.
Shawn wrote, performed and produced his second album, Love Is, in 2013.
Lake Lifestyles Magazine featured Shawn in Oct. 2012 as “The Lake’s Youngest One-Man-Band,” and he was the recipient of the 2012 Outstanding Youth Award from the Camdenton Area Chamber of Commerce. During his 2012 season he released his first album, Chasing Echoes. Shawn has made a variety of radio appearances, and 101.9 The Wave has aired several of the tracks from his CD."

Garry Lincoln

We always love when Garry comes out to play his tunes. He is a wonderfully acclaimed artist, and you will probably recognize his name from playing at other Lake of the Ozarks venues. Garry Lincoln will be performing at Seven Springs Winery on Sunday, May 6th, from 2 PM to 5 PM. If you aren't familiar with him, here's a snippet from his website!

"Garry Lincoln was born in Columbia, MO and was raised in Blue Springs, MO. He started singing different genres at a young age and loved watching all of the music award shows as a kid. It wasn’t until the age of 15 with the influence of Randy Travis that he got the urge to delve into country music. By the age of 18, he started writing his own songs. He knew how he wanted them to sound, but he didn’t know how to play the guitar so he acquired the help of friends but it still didn’t sound the way he had envisioned. A few years later, Garry picked up a guitar and taught himself to play by.
Garry received an offer from a major producer in Nashville to come out and work on a record deal. In 1995, as a single father trying to support his son, he moved to Nashville where he came close to getting a record deal several times. When asked what it is about Nashville that made him want to be there his reply is simple, “It was always my dream to be there, to be in the same place with all the big stars and to try and reach what many of my friends called the impossible dream.” While in Nashville, he sang demos, continued to write songs, and opened for many artists. He stayed in Nashville for about 4 years before returning to the Kansas City area in order to care for his growing family."

Your Lake of the Ozarks Winery

We are proud to bring you the best of the best at the Lake of the Ozarks. From fun events that everyone will enjoy, to the best live music at the Lake of the Ozarks. Of course, we would be remiss if we didn't also brag about the best wine at the Lake of the Ozarks. FAQs About Wine

The nectar of the gods - at least, that’s how we feel about it! Vino is a beverage that has been consumed for thousands of years. It’s been enjoyed by paupers and princes alike, and yet, there are certainly some questions that surround it. We’ve done a little digging to find some of the most frequently asked questions about wine. There are some pretty crazy ones out there, and then a few that make TOTAL sense! Check out the answers to your wine questions, and don’t forget to ask your own!

Why Is Wine Better Than Beer?

We may be a bit biased to answer this question … However, we’re going to rely on an unbiased higher power (Google) to give us the answer to this question. Unfortunately, the answers aren’t very cut and dry. Some answer whether a beer is more fattening than wine, other ask which is stronger, and some ask how many beers are equivalent to a glass of wine. Basically, the common question behind “which is better” is really, which is healthier. The true consensus is that if you are drinking responsibly, and choosing options that have fewer calories than their counterpart, you can really enjoy whichever beverage suits you most. You’re also in luck - at the Lake of the Ozarks best Winery, we also serve some delicious brews. Something for everyone here!

What Does It Mean When a Wine Has “Legs”?

Did you know that your wine has legs? This doesn’t mean that is will just walk off and leave you, but it can help indicate the alcohol level in your wine! Legs or ‘tears’ will fall at different speeds depending on the alcohol content in your favorite wine. If the ‘legs’ are thicker or slower, it generally indicates a higher alcohol content.

What Wine is Used for Mulled Wine?

When you “mull” a wine, it disguises a lot of the nuances of the taste. You won’t want to pick something delicate because of that. Choose something that is bigger, bolder, and full-bodied. Red wines are the most popular, so if you’re looking for the next Lake of the Ozarks wine to feature in your Mulled Wine recipe, try our Norton! It’s got a deep plum color, along with full-bodied notes of tobacco and oak with a spicy smooth finish.

Which Wine Has The Least Calories?

If you’re looking for a wine with fewer calories, you’ll be better off sticking with whites. White wine tends to have a lower alcohol content than reds do, which in turn can mean fewer calories. With anything, moderation is key so too much of anything will build up in calories. Need a tasty white to try? How about our Vignoles with its mid-straw color and olive green tone! Or maybe our Spring Fling with the light bodied and fruity flavors.

Can Wine Freeze?

The short answer is yes! The longer version of the answer is yes, but … do not freeze your bottle of wine. Alcohol’s freezing point is lower than water, but the water content will begin to freeze, and when it does, it will begin to expand. This can put a lot of pressure on the cork (which could get pushed out) and on the bottle (which could crack). In short, if you want to freeze your wine, put it in ice cube trays first - do NOT freeze your wine bottles!

What Wine Goes With Steak?

If you want to pair your steak with an excellent wine, you won’t go wrong with a luxurious red. From our Syrah to our Seven’s Red Heaven, a glass of these wines would pair wonderfully with your next delicious steak.

Your Wine Connection at the Lake

If you’re looking for a fantastic hangout at the Lake of the Ozarks, Seven Springs Winery is the ideal hole in the wall spot at the Lake of the Ozarks. While it’s well known and loved by many tourists and locals alike, it still keeps the same old wonderful feel of a comfortable atmosphere where you can go to relax. Our patio is perfect for dining on, and the views are breathtaking. Come out and enjoy a glass of Missouri wine with us. You’ll be glad you did ;).

Pairing Your Food & Wine 101

If you want to host a delicious meal, while also appearing to be an expert wine connoisseur, learning about food and wine pairing is a must. While there’s a bit of a science to it, the best thing about it is that as long as YOU like the pairing, you’re right. Differences in taste buds could mean that ideal pairing could be a little different, however, there are still a few things that can help you make a no-fail choice when it comes to wine and food pairing. Here are a few suggestions to make you look like an expert.

Sparkling Wines

When serving a sparkling wine, there are a few things to keep in mind. You want to try and pair it with light and/or salty menu options. All the while avoiding red meat, spicy dishes, and cream sauces. Some good pairing suggestions would be halibut, eggs, or oysters, and a good cheese suggestion is gruyere.

Try these varieties from Seven Springs:

  • Muscato Sparkling
  • Blushing Springs

Rich White Wines

These types of wines have a very distinct flavor profile and can be paired with some delicious dishes. They will go great with fatty or creamy dishes, but you’ll want to avoid smoked meats, Asian dishes or tomatoes. A few suggestions for serving would be with a creamy sauce, buttery fish, or a pasta salad. If you are pairing it with a cheese tray, camembert is a great choice!

Try this variety from Seven Springs:

  • Chardonel

Dry White Wines

If dry whites are your style, you’re in luck! There are some great menu options that pair well with this type of wine. You’ll want to opt for light and/or tangy choices while staying away from red meat or blue cheese. A few delicious choices would be white meat, salad, or mushrooms. For a cheese pairing, you could enjoy gouda with your dry white!

Try these varieties from Seven Springs:

  • Dry Vignoles
  • Traminette

Sweet White Wines

If you want to pair sweet white with your next meal, you should consider serving spicy and/or sweet choices! You’ll want to avoid foods that are sweeter than your wine and dark chocolate. A few scrumptious choices would be spicy food, curries, or fruity desserts - and if you’re pairing cheese, brie is a fantastic choice!

Try these varieties from Seven Springs:

  • Spring Fling
  • Vignoles

Light Red Wines

Light red wines go wonderfully with earthy and/or woody menu choices but don’t pair so well with BBQ sauce, smoked foods or salty foods. Because you’re serving a light red, you can opt for white meat, cured meat, or truffles. When pairing cheese, Swiss goes wonderfully!

Try this variety from Seven Springs:

  • Spring Red

Medium Red Wines

Rich and/or savory meals are perfection when you want to serve a medium red wine. However, you’ll want to avoid spicy foods, raw fish, or oysters. Red meat, braised dishes, or potatoes pair incredibly well with this wine, and when serving cheese, choose a flavorful gorgonzola!

Try this variety from Seven Springs:

  • Sangria Rojo

Bold Red

There’s nothing better than a bold red to set the tone for your meal. With any bold flavors, though, you’ll want to pair them strategically. Pair it with other bold and or/fatty choices, but avoid seafood, egg dishes, and light salads. It can pair well with stew, lamb or pate, and a nice smoked cheddar is perfection.

Try these varieties from Seven Springs:

  • Seven’s Red Heaven
  • Syrah
  • Norton
